Ziggy and the Rabies Vaccine

Ziggy -- died two days ago of medical complications within a month of being denied a rabies medical exemption by N.H.'s state veterinarian. Ziggy's personal veterinarian had written a request for a waiver based on his multiple, significant health issues. His owner refused to vaccinate him despite the denial of a waiver.

In the last 24 hours, I have had two people drag their shy

dog by the collar toward me to "get used to strangers" and

in the last week witnessed three people drag their dogs into

the water.
If you are afraid of snakes, being pushed into a snake pit isn't going to suddenly make it fun - "See? The snakes are friendly!" But it will probably teach you to avoid getting very close to the person who pushed you next time. Not exactly what we want to teach our dogs.

Given time and patience, your dog may very well get there on their own - but not if they are dragged, carried, or otherwise forced into the "fun."

LEPTO

High reactions, masking symptoms, little to no protection. Why would vets still suggest this vaccine?http://bit.ly/1lXPiC5 — with Michael Ferland.

"Did you know that the FDA submitted a petition on April 25 that proposes to amend the food additive regulations in part 573 Food Additives Permitted in Feed and Drinking Water of Animals (21 CFR part 573) to provide for the safe use of ethoxyquin in rendered fats and oils used in animal feed? SAFE? safe? Ha!"

Here's a quick measurement chart for herb and supplements
 we made for your dog!

THANK YOU RODNEY HABIB!

(All dosages are daily averages, of course more or less could be used depending on the pet's tolerance, and if therapeutic doses are needed. Remember to always exercise variation, moderation and balance)

TUMERIC
An exciting new study shows that turmeric can be as effective as pharmaceutical drugs in relieving arthritis and joint pain or stiffness. Have you tried turmeric for your dog? Read more about it:

Last but not least, a letter to the editor in the Statesman Examiner ( Colville Newspaper) again, about the treatment of animals in Stevens County WA.

Shelter Failure

This is a story of a shelter failure.  Why, you ask?  No meet your match, no screening, nothing.   Occasionally a volunteer or worker at a shelter will try to protect a dog by steering someone away, not this time.

This dog (actually one who looks just like this dog) passed through an area shelter.  According to her present owners, a woman who helped a younger woman get her bought her at a shelter in the area.  So the story goes.  She apparently spent four months crated in an apartment while the owner worked and partied.
So the woman put her on … Infamous Craigslist.  From there she went to a family with NO dog sense at all.  We try to make suggestions, to help her, but, alas, the male owner thinks he knows it all.  We watch her tethered, teased, water balloons thrown in her face, lunging at her collar. We gave them a harness; once in a blue moon they use it.
When we tried to explain she didn’t know getting hit in the face with water balloons, to her was NOT a game.  It was awful.  They turn our out with kids to young to know better, when will she either end up on Craigslist yet again, or, turned into SCRAPS with a bite report?  Such a pity, such a waste, so sad, it hurts my heart.

It has to be more than about numbers, it has to.

Till next week.
